A Nationally Recognized Gun Scholar


Benjamin Dowd-Arrow is a medical sociologist at Florida State University who is interested in the mechanisms of health disparities in the United States. Most of his work is centered on the relationship between firearms and well-being.  Since 2019, he has published 6 articles on firearms, served as a guest editor for Sociological Inquiry's Special Issue on "Guns in Society," and led community awareness talks about the relationship between firearms and well-being. 
Dr. Dowd-Arrow is a faculty member in the Public Health Program at Florida State University, where he serves as the Director of the Bachelor's in Public Health. Dr. Dowd-Arrow teaches a variety of courses on public health, including a course he developed in 2017 at Florida State University called "Guns, Society, and Public Health."
